Statistician responsibilities include:

  • Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data by selecting methods of data collection, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and management of civil registration and vital statistical database(s).
  • Provides training and technical support on data collection programmes on civil registration and vital statistics, country practices and other related information.
  • Participates in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research in civil registration and vital statistics.
  • Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
  • Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person and coordinates the implementation of the APAI-CRVS activities at national and regional levels.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in demography, population studies, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data from civil registration or related area is required.

Requirements and skills

  • Experience working with CRVS (civil registration and vital statistics) systems is desirable.
  • English and French are the working language of the UN Secretariat.
  • For the post advertised, fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

3. Human Rights Officer

Human Rights Officer responsibilities include:

  • Reviews, monitors and evaluates activities relating to the implementation of international human rights instruments, including recommendations of treaty bodies and mechanisms of the Human Rights Council. In follow up to UPR recommendations, supports the work of treaty-established bodies and extra-conventional mechanisms including special procedures.
  • Prepares relevant human rights parts of reports for the General Assembly, Human Rights Council (HRC),etc. notes on the status of ratification of human rights instruments, etc.
  • Prepares inputs for discussions on prevention related matters, including Regional Monthly Reviews (RMRs) and other relevant initiatives and identifies risk areas from recommendations from the UPR and other human rights mechanisms.
  • Advises State authorities, civil society, United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs) and OHCHR field presences in the region on the use of the available sources of financial and technical assistance, including the UPR Voluntary Funds, and facilitates country-to-country exchanges of good practices on engaging with UPR and other human rights mechanisms’ and implementing their recommendations.
  • Organizes capacity-building activities for States and other stakeholders on engaging with the human rights mechanisms, including the UPR, on establishing or strengthening national mechanisms for reporting and follow-up, and the use of the other digital tools developed by OHCHR.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required.

Requirements and skills

  • Experience with the universal periodic review or other human rights mechanism is desirable.

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, monitoring, reporting and evaluation or related area are required.

Requirements and skills

  • Relevant experience in managing and conducting evaluations and leading evaluation teams is desirable.
